The Museum
Created in 1857, Soissons Museum will celebrate in 2007 its one hundred and fiftieth birthday. Open in 1857 in the present Town Hall, it has been setting up since 1933 in the Saint Léger Abbey buildings. It has been developing since 1995 on Saint Jean des Vignes site (temporary exhibitions rooms of the "Arsenal" and the offices of the
" Conservation au Logis de l'Abbé")
It is one of the most richly endowed museum of Picardy. It recounts 7,000 years of archaeological history in the Aisne Valley. It also presents a collection of paintings from the 17th century to the 20th century.
Permanent collections:
-Archaeology of a valley
-History of the city
-Fine Arts: Flemish, Italian and French paintings
-Middle Age Stones collections
These exhibitions are made with the participation of the Ministry of Culture, The Picardy Local Council and Regional Council.
