Situated in the heart of the city, the cathedral is part of the seven Gothic cathedrals of Picardy. Begun at the end of the 12th century, its building lasted two centuries.
The south arm of the transept is a remarkable example of the first building of the first Gothic style on four levels built since 1175.The façade, unfinished and mutilated at many times, opens to the nave which illustrates the Classic Gothic style.
Strongly damaged during the First World War, it owns a remarkable property heritage: “The adoration of the shepherds” by Rubens, the portal of the sacristy by Michel -Ange Slodtz ,the stained- glass windows by Raphel Lardeur.
The rebuilding of the city centre after the First World War isolates it today. The Marquigny square shows to advantage its eastern parts.
The new Mantoue Square allows to imagine the space formerly reserved to the ancient gardens of the bishop’s palace.
